Luxury bootmaker Saboteuse creates bespoke boots for one patron at a time. Each design derives from a collaborative impetus, is unique and deliberate.
The highest quality materials compose a pair of singular, handmade Saboteuse boots: calf linings from small tanneries in France, oak-tanned soles from Germany, insoles and welts from England, and linen thread from Ireland are among these discerning decisions. Each pair is made for two specific individual feet: measured, imprinted, and interpreted into an exclusive pair of lasts. The boots are slowly hand-fashioned using age-old techniques acquired and honed over years of training and practice. The quality material choices, the thorough knowledge of craft, the comprehensive design education, and the precision of execution are the intrinsic value of a pair of Saboteuse boots.
To participate in this process is to be invaluable in the tenuous survival of shoecraft, to perpetuate Massachusetts’ foundational artisanal origins, to invest in the worth of superior handmade objects that last a lifetime. Make the conscious choice to combat the inequities of fast-fashion and walk away in an exquisite pair of boots made specifically for you. -->
Over 30 processes constitute a pair of boots, from last-work to pattern-making to closing, making, and finishing with many steps in between.
To begin, la Saboteuse will measure each Patron’s feet in order to adapt individual lasts (boot forms) with the intent to create well-fit singular boots.
La Saboteuse will propose an original boot design and its materials based on mutual collaboration with the Patron, then construct the boots by hand to the Patron’s measurements.
Just as each pair of boots will be singular in size and fit, so will be each design born of inspiration unique to the Patron.
Each pair of boots takes several months to complete, with 90 - 150
hours of labor invested in an average pair to raise the boots up out of raw materials. Saboteuse has a one year waiting list.
Boots
cost in a range from $3,500 to $6,000+ depending on the complexity of
design; prices directly reflect the labor and material relationship to
each pair.
The aspiration is to
walk out of the Ten Footer Studio in a comfortable work of exquisitely-crafted,
wearable art. -->
